We enjoyed a lovely mass together this morning and 2nd Grade remembered how to use their best behavior. Still, sitting is not so easy, so we headed out to do some gentle jogging up the hill to get our wiggles out, before going back in.
Next, we picked leaves and created our nature shirts and finished our All About Me art that is now in the hall.
Perhaps you've heard we're all atwitter about snails and so today we read a book about all the other places in natures where you find swirls.
Then we made some swirls of our own.
The big discovery today was a baby snail, so tiny that Mrs. Paris had to get the magnifying glass to be sure it wasn't a speck of dirt. We cleaned up the grapes and added cucumbers. Our snails loved them.
So, the teacher sometimes asks at the end of week.
The results-
Mrs. Paris' favorite colors are red and teal.
"You're very nice." Which was followed by another saying, "Duh, everyone knows that."
Which led to a conversation about affirmation and the teacher admitting that even teachers enjoy affirming words.
I learned more about snails.
Snails have spiral shells.
We read a lot of books.
We learned thermochromatic.
Mrs. Paris doesn't like showoffs.
Black crayon resists watercolor.
Which led to the question wondering if other colors of crayon also resist watercolor.
What our first spark stations will be about.
Gak.
More Gak that turned colors on a Popsicle.
We learned the rime "ail".
"Sn" is the onset of snail.
When snails eat, the shell grows.
Is there a beaver dam in the creek?
Mrs. Paris' favorite animal is a gorilla, favorite cartoon animal is Eeyore and favorite creek animal is a mud puppy.
Back to school week is fun, but tiring. Everyone in Room 15 was ready for the weekend!
