Christmas Continues

We enjoyed our little pause for Advent each day, as well as many other fun activities, ending in our party today.  Special thanks to all of Santa's Elves who made it happen!

Mrs. Walker has faithfully visited each week to work with small groups on numbers and words. We love it!
Mrs. Paris made us each a wee gingerbread house. We enjoyed decorating, overseen by a special grandma helper.

Three of our Advent afternoons included tea in china cups and a treat made in Germany, our country of study.  Mrs. Jansen was able to join us for tea on this afternoon.

 Lots of wrapping going on.

 We love our fancy glasses.

And a yummy chocolate sucker from our visiting art teacher, Mrs. Engle.

A little can stomping to get our wiggles out before the Christmas party.

 Time to Party!  With painting,
 and great books and snacks,

And Bingo!!!

And now we're off to a wonderful break.
Merry Christmas to all and God bless us everyone!!!!

It is Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

Lots going on in Second Grade-  Popcorn Players, Mrs. Claus' Ornament Shop, play practice and taking out a moment of our day for Advent.
Our week began with a career visit and information about anesthesiology. We love our special visitors that remind us there is still so much to learn.
We have been ending our day with an Advent reading. Some scripture is sure challenging to read in second grade, but we've tackled it.  We turn the lights down, light the candle and listen in. After we read and learn a new name for Jesus, we write it in our book and then illustrate it.  A peaceful way to end our day.

In Spark Stations, we're creating the North Pole.
We are enjoying a new chapter book, that somehow seems very familiar, yet very strange.

This month we are studying Germany.  Do you know about Krampus and the Angels?  Well, just ask me and I'll tell you all about it.  We decorated our map board with all kinds of nice and naughty characters.
Mrs. Paris brought us some German made cookies.  We enjoyed a spot of tea on this dreary afternoon with our cookies.

Don't worry, we did lots of subtraction, talked measurement, went through all twenty four hours on the clock, learned to spell sight words that we use all the time, read a book a day and more!

A Blast from Our Past

We've spent most of this semester in the past, learning about our ancestors, our area,  and how we got to be here.  Today, our special people came for our Biography Tea.  We made lots of yummy treats.

We shared briefly about what we've been learning, sang a song about where we live, then introduced them to our ancestors.

After our big show, we got to show our special people around to see all the great things we've been working on.

We saved a big cucumber treat so our guests could see how our snails flock to the buffet. Wouldn't you know, not a one showed his face till everyone left. Then they didn't waste anytime running for the feast.

We are learning about the sun, and another classmate, who's grandpa grew popcorn, brought us another treat, so we enjoyed it while we watched Bill Nye telling about that big energy producer in the sky.

Mrs. Paris noticed the sun peeking out, so in our ancestor attire and boots, we made our way to the creek. There was water! We declared November 22 National Creek Day!

At last, we got to sample our treats and have a cinnamon roll.
Another student shared a quilt her grandma made.

So ended our big, exciting day!

Earlier in the week, we got to watch, on the big screen, our classmate at a sheep show.
Learning about adjectives is more fun when you get to see, taste,  hear and smell some colorful Skittles.

Second grade is running over with talent and learning.  A big thanks to everyone who joined our learning adventure this week!
